Collected Star coins disappear

I completed one level with all star coins collected. Then I played the next level. I got a checkpoint and one star coin, but after that I dead. Then I saw, that all of my star coins collected from the previous level were gone. That happens every time when you die in a level with checkpoint and star coins got.

1. I collect 2 Star Coins.
2. I hit the checkpoint.
3. I die.
4. Start at checkpoint but game forgot I found the 2 other Star Coins. I have to go back before the checkpoint and get the 2 other Coins.
