Question:
Is this project a new version of SMBX?
Answer:
No. This is NOT a SMBX, but fully compatible with them.
SMBX - is a fan game. SMBX is a Mario specific game engine which have strict standards with customization. Also, SMBX failed in 2011th year because it was illegal because have INTEGRATED copyright content which used by SMBX's developer for take off money. Written in the VisualBasic 6 and built for Windows platform only.
PGE - is a game engine project which allow to you build any games and program any staff. The PGE is based on the reverse engining of SMBX, and therefore it fully compatible with famous mario fan-game. I.e. you can open/edit/play the SMBX's levels and episodes. Written in the C++, and built for Linux, Windows and Mac OS X platforms.
Which about Mario fan-game series:
PGE will be published without using Mario stuff first, but will be available two game configs pack for PGE which will hold the SMBX stuff.
With PGE, SMBX will have a codename "SMBX/PGE" and for this project will be available two config packs:
- SMBX 1.3: this config pack have all current SMBX stuff and fully compatible with exists SMBX's episodes. All saved levels/worlds will correctly work in the SMBX. This config will use GIF images with masks which same in the SMBX.
- SMBX Extended (SMBX Extended): this config pack is a successor of SMBX, will have new SMBX stuff and stuff that exists already, will have fixed algorithms/frames/animations, etc. This config pack will not be compatible with old SMBX. I.e. your new episodes will not be work in the old SMBX, but you can use all new PGE's features. Also in this config will be used the PNG images with own transparency, and you can have the more beuteful sprites with using semi-transparency of PNG format.
