Super Mario Origins Duology; NEW DEMO COMING OUT SOON!

DOWNLOAD THE SMB1 SIDE DEMO HERE: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1RZMwL9PCC_1o5DJGSVWJEubbJsAXKfdM

In development since December of 2018, this project started out as Super Mario Bros. Remastered features the graphics from the All-Stars version of SMB1 and features taken from Super Mario Bros. Deluxe for the Gameboy Color. In May of 2020 I decided to merge "The Lost Levels Remastered" with this project to make "The Super Mario Origins Duology". It's now a 2 game remasters in 1 episode.
Here is some of what you can expect to see in Super Mario Bros. Remastered:

RETURNING FROM THE PREVIOUS VERSIONS OF SMB1 + TLL:
-Ace-Coins from Super Mario Bros. Deluxe, only relocated throughout the levels to be more appropriate.
-Yoshi Eggs from Super Mario Bros. Deluxe as well, except the locations for the eggs won't change.
-Overworld based off of Super Mario Bros. Deluxe in SMAS styled graphics with a newly added warp world.
-You vs Boo Levels are back but have been repurposed into multiplayer VS levels bundled with the main episode itself as a bonus.
-A working end level fireworks system.
-A checkpoint system accurate to SMB1 rather than the default SMW checkpoint.
-Proper SMB1-esque level intros.
-Parrallax and backgrounds improved to be more accurate to the SMAS version.
-Hard mode returns from the NES and SNES versions.

NEW TO SUPER MARIO ORIGINS DUOLOGY:
-Beginning and ending scenes for both SMB1 and TLL akin to Super Mario Advance 4.
-Ace Coins and Yoshi Eggs from SMBDX will be added to "The Lost Levels" as well.
-Added Peach's Castle at the start of the game where you can view scenes, see Ace-Coin and Yoshi Egg totals, use unlocks obtained by collecting Ace-Coins and eggs, and is also where you can swith from playing SMB1 or TLL.
-All 5 characters are playable! With Peach, Toad, and Link looking more SMB1 appropriate.
-Unlockables include returning power-ups, Yoshi(Yes in SMB1 style), SMBX exclusive items, and abilities from other games.(
-Full co-op support for both games.(Except the custom HUD, and parrallax scrolling which always breaks in multiplayer, sorry!)
-Toad, Peach, and Link will have proper (NEW) swimming sprites and swimming animations.
-The Lost Levels will have a complete world map for the first time ever!(In SMBDX for the GBC it just recycled SMB1's world map so no that doesn't count, and the BS-X version only had the first 3 or for worlds so that doesn't count either.)
-Warp zone has been moved to the world map.
-FIVE new original SMB1-styled battle levels to be bundled with the episode along with the aforementioned returning You vs Boo stages.

Please note that these screenshots and GIFs were taking from multiple stages of development some of them may have graphics or features that have changed.

Screenshots are still just from the SMB1 side of the game but SMB:TLL screens and GIFs will be added soon.

FAQ:
Q:When will the full episode be released?
A:Soon! I have tried to set release date for it in the past, but only to disappoint the community and myself when I fail a deadline. So all I can say for now is soon. However expect another demo containing worlds 1-2 of both SMB1 and TLL bundled with the battle levels soon(er).

Q:What do you wish to deliver with the Super Mario Origins Duology?
A:I wish to deliver what is essentially the Super Mario Advance 5 that never happened, only with the perks and unlocks of being in the SMBX 38A Engine.(And without the horrendous GBA color palette and screen crunch. YUCK!)

Q:Is this your first SMBX episode?
A:Yes! I wanted to familiarize myself with the level editor of SMBX before I started an original SMBX episode, and I thought remastering a SMB game first would be a good way to do that.

Q:Why did you chose SMBX 38A as the version to release SMOD on?
A:It had the most SMB1+TLL content already bundled in the level editor, more so than 2.0 and certainly way more than 1.3, which means it was the easiest to make the Remaster for.

Q:Will you be releasing this for 2.0 as well?
A:Nope. However let me put it this way; if somebody wants to port my work from 38A over to 2.0 I'd be fine with it as long as they credit me for the work on the 38A version(and Nintendo!)

Q:Will you be releasing a "Super Mario Bros. Special: Remastered" as well?
A:Probably not. I have had my fill of making Mario 1-esque content for a while. However I have a proof-of-concept level 1 of Super Mario Bros Special: Remastered here: https://www.supermariobrosx.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=89&t=25565

Q:Can we expect eeeeverything from previous versions of SMB1 in SMOD?
A:No, do not expect the return of: badges from SMBDX, the high score system from SMBDX, the title screen, the post level toad house from SMBDX's challenge mode, or the Gameboy printable images(because of course not.)

Q:Where can I follow the development of this episode?
A:You'll find me on the SMBX 38A(and to a lesser extent the SMBX) discord quite a lot you can drop by and say hi and feel free to ask questions, I go by the username Iggy.

Due to my own safety I have removed all videos of the Origins Duology from YouTube and have been re-uploaded on the 38A discord. All future SMOD will be uploaded there from here on out. You can still expect SMB1 *related* videos like script and graphic videos to still be uploaded though. Expect more updates very soon, I've got some surprises in store! ;-) Say how would you all feel about a SMB2 type graphics pack for SMOD after it is released?

All bugs mentioned have been noted and will be fixed in the official release and 2nd Demo! Also P.S. the fire fixes itself in version 1.4.4.

Did you know that the SMBDX version of The Lost Levels recycles the world maps for SMB1? I thought for this remake I need to do better, so instead I will be making my own unique world maps for The Lost Levels. So here is a teaser of what that map will look like for WORLD 1 of The Lost Levels.
Image

In other news I have been overhauling and optimizing how some of the scripts and systems work to make levels easier to make and work with. As soon as these new systems are done I should be able to make levels faster than I ever had on this project before. Expect the GIFs and images in this topic to get an overhaul soon to show off things more up to date with the current status of the project, as well as include stuff from TLL. Also I'm back to work on the battle levels and I am hoping to put them up for download soon!

For those interested in the level I teased a while back you can now download it at this topic: viewtopic.php?f=60&t=3908 I even made a YouTube video of it! It used many of the same scripts and other systems I'll be using for the Origins Duology. It's almost sort of like Demo 1.5. The SMB2(USA) HUD used in that level will also be available as a separate download soon!

Now since I haven't posted here in a while you may think the project may be dead, but that couldn't be any further from the truth. Within the past month the following has happened:

-Finished the HUD for this project to be fully multiplayer compatible! This makes SMBX 38A history to be the first ever episode to have a fully multiplayer compatible HUD!
Image

-Work has finally started on the unlocks & totals room in Peach's castle.

Image

-SMB1 player sprites which this project uses have been updated with offset fixes and is available for download here: https://www.supermariobrosx.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=24978

-Returned to work on the You vs. Boo battle levels, which in addition to utilizing the new compatible HUD it will also use SetaYoshi/Yoshi21's upcoming multiplayer compatible parallax layers script! (No screenshots or GIFs yet.)

Just thought I would pop in to say that THIS PROJECT IS NOT CANCELLED. I've just reached that phase of development where I have finished all the fun stuff and have to do all the really boring and tedious stuff. Here's what's left to do:
- Finish the race/battle levels
- Various Link gfx fixes
- End castle Toad animation gfx
- Once all scripts are finished apply them to all of the "stripped" levels and adjusts variables/scripts accordingly to the level
- Make the beginning and end story cutscenes
- Beta testing and bug fixing

I often try to refrain from posting about my personal life on here, but in this case I will make an exception. You are probably reading this seeing I haven't posted on here in a while thinking "Is the Origins Duology cancelled?" I can assure you that it isn't. You see for years I struggled with an addiction to my medication, and I was not aware I was addicted to it until just a few weeks ago. My medication made me disassociate, it made me negligent, it made me moody, it made me depressed, it made me focus on all the wrong things, and it most certainly impacted how much I worked on this project. It was eye opening to learn this about myself, I knew something was wrong with me. All this happened because I thought I needed a higher dose, that's what my doctor thought as well. This isn't the direct fault of any individual. I can say that my darkest days of addiction have passed. I am currently going to a therapist, I am already doing better and I know that brighter days are ahead of me. I don't know when I will return to work on this, but I know for certain that I have made far too much progress on this just to quit. I'm not giving up, I refuse. I will return to this one day probably in some number of months from now.

In conclusion: For my own mental health I am taking a hiatus. I'll be back, I'm sure of it. The Super Mario Origins Duology will still be released one day, and when it does it will be awesome!
