How do i make custom costumes for Mario

I'm trying to add custom sprites to Mario but I don't know how to do it, I have about 5 sprites for walking and 2 for running, one for idle and another one for when you're pressing run while not moving and i plan on making more. I also want to add some new moves to Mario but i don't know how to do that either.
