World Map Editor - Mario Spawn/Path errors

In World Map Editor, whenever I create a basic map and use the Yoshi house as a game start point Mario will still always spawn in a void (only the yoshi house is selected as game start point). I didn't manually add path tiles under the Yoshi house or the levels as I only selected "background path" for each level tile.

Also, the paths between all levels will all be visible and free to roam without having to complete levels despite setting "open exit paths by type" on each level. There aren't many tutorial vids out there, but from what I've seen I should be doing everything correctly.

Any way to help? Not sure if this is a glitch, or if I need to reinstall or something.
