I'm wondering whether it is possible to temporarily freeze any movement on screen (Player, NPC, layer movement) as well as their animation, then turn it back to normal. I'm willing to create things like an inventory (like in Zelda games), custom text boxes (as the font used for messages in SMBX doesn't support diacritics like accents, umlauts, cedillas, etc.), a custom pause menu, or other stuff like that.

If you're using English for messages, it's okay; if you switch to French or German for example, you might encounter some problems.

I know it's already been suggested by Lx Xzit there, but even though it wasn't added, I wonder if SMBX 1.4.4 brought us a manner of achieving it.
Could anyone lend me a hand for that script? Thanks in advance :)

You can freeze the game (and freeze the screen) by making a loop without sleep command.

Do
Loop

Doesn't it crash the game?

No it doesn't, it freeze the game, if you set this in script :

do
loop until keypress(65)

The game freeze until you press A.
