The editor is unable to load a custom mask for BGO-1. It just uses the default mask.

Does you named your maks file right? (background-1m.gif) I tested it on my side (just got any random image with mask, seted it as BGO-1, and everything works fine)
It must be in GIF, PNG or in BMP format. Any other formats like JPEG are not supported.
If you still have trouble, try to get PGE package from laboratory (Also don't forget to take a config pack patch).

The name is fine, and I just updated the config pack. The problem did not go away.

Are you use mask only (without foreground image)? PGE tries to find masks for case when detected a customizes foreground image and then looks for a default/custom mask to apply it to foreground image (if GIF file, for PNG file masks are ignored)

Added after 50 seconds:
Anyway please send me your image to let me try it myself

The image was working just fine until I got the latest version of the editor. Then the mask quit working. I don't think the images are the problem, but here they are:
background-1.gif
background-1.gif (152 Bytes) Viewed 2518 times
background-1m.gif
background-1m.gif (916 Bytes) Viewed 2518 times

This is probably just another one of those weird errors that only occur on my computer. That has happened before.

Also, the editor still crashes when attempting to reload configurations.

I just tried it as-is in a random level - works fine
background-1-mask-works-fine.png

My dummy level where I tested that:
In episode folder:
dummy.zip
(1.72 KiB) Downloaded 226 times

In custom folder:
Dummy-2.7z
(1.02 KiB) Downloaded 228 times

EDIT: About reload crash, I wasn't completely fixed that, bug I going to resolve that. Crash happens on reload of tileset item box after all configs are been reloaded, and happens only on Windows and only Release build (not debug build).

Well, just as I suspected, I'm the only one who gets the error. That's just my luck, you know.

I tried deleting the image and making a new one. That didn't help.

I opened a different level using BGO-1, and it had a screwed up mask, too.

I got a newer build. The problem didn't go away.

I redownloaded the config pack. That didn't work, either.

I'm out of ideas for what to try. Any other suggestions?

My tests are done in Windows XP, Windows 7, Linux Mint 17.3, Mac OS X 10.9.5. Everything works fine. About Windows 10: I heard that Win10 got some junk updates and most of apps are works buggy even there are worked fine before that.
Does that happens only with BGO-1 and BGO-2 with same sprite will work fine? (I'll try to check some code for that)

Yes, this bug is only occurring with BGO-1. All other custom BGOs are being displayed properly as far as I can tell.
