It's annoying to say the least, also what are the current "Hot Keys"? I know that pop-up window is essential so a hot key for that would be better.My only problem...

Do you mean properties box?
Download the laboratory build and you can disable pop-up of properties box in the [Tools / Application settings / Editing] menu. Also, if you need to set some properties, will be special properties button on the placing toolbar (toolbar with "Rectangle", "Line", "Flood-fill", "Overwrite mode" features)
