Registration in IRC is needed if you want to prevent others from using your own nickname.
On freenode.org I created a channel/chat room for PGE community:
#platgenwohl
How to register on IRC:
1) Connect to the IRC server irc.freenode.org (from a installed client, or via webchat https://webchat.freenode.net/) with your nickname.
2) Join channel #platgenwohl or any other channel of the sort (not necessary).
3) Enter this message/command in the chat window:

/msg NickServ REGISTER ThePassWord youremail@example.org
ThePassWord is where you would enter your private password, which will be used for IRC authentication.
youremail@example.org is where you will enter your email address, and is necessary for activating your IRC account.
4) Upon registering, you will receive an email with a verification command that you will need to run to complete the registration process.
5) Re-connect to the IRC Freenode Server with your password.
