What does it think you that some features compare to RPG Maker (XP, VX or VX Ace)'s ones?
For me the switches functions for the program remind me of RPG Maker's ones.

In future planned things which will allow RPG-like games, but main difference of RPG-maker and PGE:
- RPG-Maker - for top-scrolling games. All games like Zelda.
- PGE - side-scrolling acting games. All games like Mario, Metroid, Megaman, Braid etc.

To allow RPG-like free world, need:
- global variables which listed in the WLDX format and will be implemented. Will allow change state of OTHER level(s) which in RPG will be like "location".
- collectible items or weapons (guns, swords, knifes, axes, etc.) and ammunition for them
- money to buy/sold
- variable skills which can be improved when game process is going.
- countable health (in points unlike in power-ups. Here character will die when health will go to 0)

In this case then there would be global switches and variables like seen in RPG Maker.
and About LUA, i'm not a LUA scripter, so i guess i'm sorry, only if there was a easy programming system other than working in LUA scripts...

For this case Kevin have idea to apply this thing: http://www.ogdf.net/doku.php
It will help to generate necessary code in visual mode, it should be more understandable for users

And also a way to seamlessly connect levels with insta-warps. Just like in commercial metriodvanias (Metroid, Castlevania), so player wont sit trough loading screens when going from one location to another.
As for making metroidvanias, the creator needs a way or tool to properly manage connections between rooms (sections) so the creator won`t get lost with enormous number of warp connections, especially when making large-scale metroidvnia game.

Can you tell me how it will work?

Probably similar to that:

This is a screenshot from the AI Editor from the game Awesomenaut.
Don't expect it to be exactly like that.

Looks complicated :P

About the main subject, currently it's impossible to compare. As Wohl said, PGE is for 2D sidescroller game, and RPGMaker is for topscrolling games like EvoLand, Zelda, even Pacman, but it's not an RPG.
When some RPG systems like levels, hp, mana, etc. are introduced then we can compare RPGMaker and PGE.

As far as RPG elements go, it COULD be cool to see a health bar that grows after killing so many enemies, or maybe something similar to SMB2's hearts system.
Just throwing ideas around.
