I was initially looking for a way to get SMBX 2 in linux, ive wanted to play that game for so long, but I couldn't figure it out. Fortunately, I found TheXTech and now im going to try to install it soon. I hope I can help to make this place feel less lonely, hehe. Forums are underrated.

Hello and welcome!

First question: what distro you do use? I do have Linux Mint 22.2, and X2 just works from the Wine 9.x. If speak about the latest Beta5, it should work with just default set of Wine. For older Wine and older X2 versions you need to install some extra dependencies: VB6 runtime and DirectX-9 kit. They are just here: https://wohlsoft.ru/docs/SMBX2/deps/

Hi! Well things changed a bit now. Yesterday genuinely felt like a fever dream lmao. I use Pop! OS 22.04 I recently had to reinstall my whole system and i set up wine again and now im sure i have the latest version and that most things should work really well. But for some reason whenever I tried to use the Installer it seemed to work fine but in the end I couldn't find SMBX2 in any way anywhere. And when I tried other things it just showed some strange errors? I don't remember well now.
But later I was randomly scrolling through my applications, and I actually found SMBX2 there, I was confused and I tried to play it and it actually worked perfectly. I was very happy and i tried to find where the files are stored to see if I could somehow install stuff. When I opened the file explorer in wine (and the button in the game to play a .lvl file) all I could see was that it was stored in the :C folder in Program files. But the way wine stores files is really really strange, there were like more than 4 possible different files with the same name that I saw in wine but I was not able to find it in any of the ones i checked. Maybe I missed something, but trying to search more just makes my head spin lmao.
Maybe if you actually know anything about how that really works or where your SMBX2 files are in your computer it would help me find it.
For now, I found that using the file explorer in wine to copy the folder of the episode into the worlds folder works really well somehow. But I still would like to be able to get the files of the things I make.
Regardless, it was a very interesting experience and i'm glad i can finally play SMBX after so many years of watching videos and not knowing how I could play it. :dance1:
