Does the Player class work in the world map?

I need to use player class for my world map, to access things like the player ID, powerup status, etc. Is this possible yet?

Field Player.character int The current character of the player is in. See constants for the values you can put it. (LunaLua ≥ v0.7.2)
Why does this say LunaLua ≥ 0.7.2? This version is not available yet. Is this function not available until the newer version that you haven't uploaded, or is it just a typo? I'm asking because it ALWAYS returns NIL when I try to use it on the world map.
