I removed the checker pattern in some of them, smoothing them out more.
In one castle background i just changed some colors.
My favorite it the enhanced SMW backgrounds.

The mario world one i changed up to look better, and more... alstars like.
Smoothed this one out a bit to.
And this one as well, you will notice it's less... dotty?
Yeah let's go with that.
Hard to tell but i did the same with this one.
Did it here to, mainly with the gradient in the sky.
The pillars had that dot like checker pattern in this one to.. so i removed it and.. yeah you can see it.
I just changed some colors with this one.
Did again.. pillars had this dotted thing going on, and i did away with that.
I don't have to say it with this one either, but it does look better to me.
The pillars in this one had that same effect again.. and again.. i smoothed it out a bit.
