One of the abilities, and probably the more useful, given by the Frog Suit was to be able to swim through currents. The problem is than SMBX 38A Frog Suit doesn't give the ability to go through any current in the water.
The boomrang had a really short range, shorter than the boomrang provided by a suit for Toad. It really make it useless. In the original version of SMBX, the range was the same.
If SMBX must reach different games outside the Mario series, it must be Zelda. We have the main character, Link, some powerup and npcs, blocks, backgrounds... Hell, we even have Metroïd component like Mother Brain. The only "Sonic" object already in the editor is the ring. Redigit probably...

extending npcs is probely unnecessary to him I don't think so. Npcs aren't just sprites. It also adding new gameplay fonction and AI, and it's better to have it already part of the editor than to create a script. He already did that by adding boomerang/fire/ice/sledge/sumo bros, magikoopa, chain ch...
I'm sure he already know where to get the sprites, like here https://www.spriters-resource.com/ and only request about npc no existing in any of the classic mario games (SMB1,SMB2,SMB3,SMW) would be a problem with a real need to create the sprites.
38A did already a great job with npc like Magikoopa. I really don't see why he wouldn't do the other npcs. Yes, some were recreated with script, but it always cost one or more other npcs from the list being replaced, and even so, the recreation is not always accurate to the original.
I really think the npcs needed first are the ones still missing in SMBX from Mario All Stars like Wiggler, Chargin' Chuck, Boo Buddy Block, Rip Van Fish, Big Bertha, Fire Snake, Kuribo's Goomba, Phanto... Well, that kind of npc.
The player is able to grab again any shell he throw if pressing again the "grab" and moving the same direction button just after the release. It shouldn't be possible.
