Nope the SDL_Mixer X change isn't the problem (I made two proofs and I'm completely sure the changes of the SDL_Mixer isn't the problem) it's the game itself.

Firstly let me say your 8-bit Mario sprites looks pretty cool.
Are you sure the image (Mario-2) is png format instead gif or any other? maybe it is the problem.

Why is 5438A38A taking so long to work on smbx 1.4.3 SMBX 1.4.2 was released just 4 months ago, I don't think it's a "long" time. I know the programming process is very complicated so I never expected get SMBX 1.4.3 so soon. And hey, it's not like if we never get new updates, don't forget...

That miniluigi it's literally green Mario. And I've found a lot of errors in basically all sprites, for example the Propeller Mario is a bit degraded, some sprites doesn't have exactly the same colors in all frames (for example in the Propeller Mario, there are two frames have the shoes color yellow...
