Let's write here about gradation system in our schools / universities in our countries.

I will begin:

In Russia:
5 - "You're a genius!"
4 - "Good job"
3 - "Hm... nice work"
2 - "Oh, your work is bad, try again"
1 - "You sucks!".

1 - is rare, and teacher usually gives it only if he/she is too angry.

Oh, good luck
In Russia: 5 - "You're a genius!", 4 - "Good job", 3 - "Hm... nice work", 2 - "Oh, your work is bad, try again", 1 - "You sucks!".

Just as in Poland, but in PL you also got 6 which means "Perfect" or "100%". And you have also + and -, for example 5+ means very nice and 5- almost very good but you can't get 6+. You read the grades with + and - like excellent with minus or passable plus (both ways are acceptable in PL education)
And in Poland it's like this:
99%-100% - 6 - Perfect / Excellent
90%-98% - 5 - Nice / Very good
89% - 69% - 4 - Good
68% - 50% - 3 - It's ok / Sufficient
49% - 30% - 2 - It's bad but you'll pass / Passable
29% - 0% - 1 - Bad work, try again / Insufficient

(Bolded the official Polish names for the grades)

I'm now after English exam and Polish exam, also finished Maths and Science Subjects two days ago. I passed everything, and now I have 3-weeks Christmas Holidays and I can work on PL translation for PGE.

Sorry for going slightly off-topic... I'm now working on the translation :(

In Austria:
1 - Very Good
2 - Good
3 - Okay
4 - Passable
5 - Too bad

In Germany
1 to 4 is same
5 - Poor (in this case you often have to do an additional test if you work bad in school)
6 - Too bad

It was the same thing here, in Ukraine, but the time has changed and now we have THIS:

1 and 2 - you're really bad
3 - bad work
4 and 5 - bad work, try to do better next time
6 - not bad, but not good either
7 and 8 - nice work, but not enough
9 and 10 - good job!
11 and 12 - you're a genius!

Here in Brazil we have a graduation system from 0 to 10, including decimals. (Some schools prefer 1 to 100 to avoid decimals, but it's the same: 95 in this system = 9,5 in decimal system).

10 - Flawless. No errors.
9 - Excellent, just some errors here or there.
8 - Good.
6,0 - 8,0 - Bottom limit for most schools.
5 - Try harder next time.
4, 5 - Bad.
1, 2, 3 - Poor.
0 - You're a shame.

Two grades are used to check your points in the semester. Schools with monthly tests make every two tests an average. Schools with tests every two months will take bare grades. If the sum of the grades is above or equal to the bottom limit (varies between schools), you passed.

Otherwise, you'll take a recovery test, where you have a second chance, at the cost of lowering your vacation time.
Do you want fries with that?

At Poland for school exams (like exam that you must pass in order to finish High School, etc.) there is a procent grade. Usually to pass an exam you need about 30% (30/100 points), but if you have dyslexia or something you'll have extended time for writing and I think lower "bottom line", but I'm not sure.

You only need over 30% to pass a test? We need at least 50% and for the final exam over 63%.

Hey, I already told about Russian grades in first post ;-)
"1" grade exist, but too rare and giving by teacher only if he/she really angry. (In my cases I had those cases with my classmates many years ago)

P.S. Soveit Cartoon about "1" grade:

"1" just "Кол" (slang 'Spike') gets not because someone don't know matherial: because someone made a worst work, and in schools. In University all grades in record books words only: "Отлично" (Excelent!), "Хорошо" (Good!), "Удовлетворительно" (Alright!), but "bad", "worst" aren't puts into record books: students should retake exam. Three wrong attempts to pass exam causing kicking out from university :comando:

Yes, something about 30% is enough. But almost nobody gets that small amount of points.

By 30% I mean for obligatory subjects (Maths, Polish, English). For non-obligatory subjects you even need something smaller than 30% of points o_0 Even if you fail non-obligatory subjects (for example Russian, German, French Language or History, Biology, Chemistry, all scientific subjects mainly except for your obligatory) you can pass exams if you got at least 30% on obligatory subjects (that's what I heard) o.O

By obligatory scientific subject I mean - when you're ending High School and starting Technical College or Lyceum or any College in Poland you can pick extended subjects - for example mat-fiz (which means Maths and Physics are extended and you need to pass them at least 30%) or mat-geo (Maths and Geography) or biol-chem (Biology and Chemistry)...

People might already know how it works in America, but I can show all of the ways it can be written:

the scale is from 100% to 0%, though they just have the number and not the "%".

0-52 (F-) - failing grade. if it is a test, you must re-take.
53-55 (F) - failing grade. if it is a test, you must re-take.
56-59 (F+) - failing grade. if it is a test, you must re-take.
60-62 (D-) almost failing, very bad grade. Sometimes it is failing, but it depends on the school. Usually you must re-take if it is a test.
63-65 (D) very bad grade. Sometimes it is failing, but it depends on the school. Usually you must re-take if it is a test.
66-69 (D+) bad grade. Sometimes it is failing, but it depends on the school. Usually you must re-take if it is a test.
70-72 (C-) not-good grade. It is a passing grade, but can be better.
73-75 (C) fair grade, but can be better.
76-79 (C+) not a bad grade, but not very good either. It is the minimum of what people might call a "good" grade. (because they only want to pass high school)
80-82 (B-) good grade. It shows potential, and you might have just missed one or two problems by accident. (because some tests have VERY few problems, just so they can be easy)
83-85 (B) very good grade. If you maintain an average of this or higher, you will be noticed. :)
86-89 (B+) excellent grade. People will think you're pretty smart!
90-92 (A-) Great grade! This is very good, because people think of students by a letter they usually get. So, if you have an average of this or higher, you will be called an "A student," which is an honor.
93-95 (A) Awesome grade! You're a genius.
96-100 (A+) PERFECT!!! Usually, the VERY best grade you can get. ;-)
101+ (A++) BEYOND PERFECT!!! You can only get this grade if you get ALL answers right, and then get extra credit right.

There are also a few other systems, like GPA, (which 4.0 is highest, and 0.0 is lowest) but it's NOT given as an assignment grade. It is usually just for overall grades. Standardized tests also have different, very weird grades. The PSAT goes from 0-240, and the SAT goes from 0-2400. On those tests, a 150 for PSAT and 1500 for SAT is a good grade.

Here is my school's grades.

100-90 = Excellent = A
90-86 = Very good = B
85-80 = Medium = C
79-60 = Satisfactory = D
59-20 = Non-satisfactory = E
10-0 = (Failed or Absent) = F (F is counted as grade or not in my school)

EDIT:
Well this is not custom, it is because I can't remember correctly my school grade number is.
