Well, I voted "I'll pass" since: A) I like 'em both, B) there's been a lot of stuff being added to both branches lately - not only bugfixes; but all sorts of general-usage features in 1.4; and in 2.0, NPCs out the wazoo - and C) people seem to keep forgetting that, eventually, PGE's engine...
That's the type of block that breaks when you get close, like in SMW's Forest of Illusion 1 level where the Galoombas and Cheep-Cheeps were breaking out of blocks near the end. :3

The classic damage system was chosen for game balance reasons; combining the modern damage system with the SMW reserve item system would make the game too easy/unbalanced, as the Mario Bros. would get up to 5 hits total, while Peach/Toad/Link only got 3. :o
Something interesting to add to the bug pile: If you keep holding down, and duck-jump your way over to a mini mushroom, the invisible ducking pose carries over into mini form. Doesn't work with mega mushrooms, though. who the heck is seriously using the keyboard for playing and testing I use the key...
You also can't climb ladders, shell dash in shell suit (even as Link), belly slide in penguin suit, slope slide as any form, block fire with hammer suit, or swim properly in frog or penguin suit (you get weighed down by F.L.U.D.D.; if you try to press jump to compensate, it just activates F.L.U.D.D....

When Yoshi eats an item from a generator, you can spit out a great big load of nothing if your finger is quick enough on the run button. This generates a piece of tongue behind Yoshi in the wrong place, especially if he's facing left:
